Uranus's atmosphere is about 4,800 miles deep (7,700 km). It is 83 percent hydrogen, 12 percent helium, and 3 percent methane. There are also traces of ammonia and other gases. Near the top of the atmosphere are thick clouds. The clouds are made of methane and ammonia. The methane clouds float above the ammonia clouds. Methane and ammonia are gases that turn cloudy only at very low temperatures. The top of Uranus's cloud layers is a frigid -360¬°F (-220¬°C)!
